Written by Jinjia Zheng
In Taiwan, you can open a bank account to pay your daily charge. I will use the Bank of Taiwan as an example to explain how we can open a bank account in Taiwan.
Open an offline bank account: Making an appointment will save time.
Before going to the bank, if you are a Taiwan citizen, you need to prepare your identity cards. Some banks may need utility bills and home addresses to verify your situation.
If you are a student or a businessperson, you must bring a Taiwan Residence Permit and your passport. Students should bring their home address statement and student ID. Employees or self-employed persons should bring their home address statement and employment verification.
Almost every bank in Taiwan needs verification that you live in Taiwan or are a resident of Taiwan, such as a Resident ID and residence permit. The bank may not approve your application to open a bank account using your entry visa. You do not need to provide your phone number unless you want an Online and Mobile Banking service.
Process of opening a bank account:
First, you need to visit the bank branch with all the necessary documents.
Then, ask the bank staff for the account opening application form, fill it out accurately, and submit these forms to the bank staff.
Moreover, you need to deposit the initial amount required to open an account. The minimum deposit amount varies depending on the type of account opened.
Once the account is opened, you will receive account details such as the account number and any relevant bank information to your address and your e-mail.
Also, the bank will charge you NT$100 to open an account.
Finally, you can follow the other steps your bank requires to activate your account, such as setting up online banking.
